Chancellors Family Center is the home practice facility to the Houston Express,
a local Special Olympics Team.
Chancellors provides facilities year round at no cost to local Special Olympics athletes to practice basketball, swimming, volleyball, tennis, bocce ball and other
Special Olympics type sports.
The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Chancellors Family Center provides indoor tennis courts every Sunday free of charge to Houston area wheelchair
bound tennis players.
Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports and played all over the world.
Rules are the same as stand-up tennis, except the wheelchair player is allowed two bounces of the ball. Wheelchair tennis provides persons with disabilities the opportunity to share in activities with their peers and family, whether able-bodied or disabled. Playing wheelchair tennis adds to socialization and the normalization of life after sustaining a disabling injury.
All levels of players are welcome to attend!
